Josh Marthers

With nearly 15 years of experience in the Lowcountry, Emmy award-winning meteorologist Josh Marthers helps you plan for the day ahead each morning on News 2 Today. From the Ides of March 2008 tornado outbreak, back-to-back ice storms in 2014, the devastating South Carolina floods of October 2015, and Hurricanes Matthew, Irma, and Dorian, and the April 2020 tornado outbreak; he has guided South Carolinians through some of Mother Nature’s worst.

Born and raised in Spartanburg, SC, Josh holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Mississippi State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of South Carolina. Josh is a member of the American Meteorological Association, and his forecasts carry their prestigious Seal of Approval.

Josh won the 2017 Southeast Regional Emmy for Outstanding On-Camera Talent, and Storm Team 2’s coverage of Hurricane Matthew was nominated for an Emmy as well. Josh also won an Excellence In My Market Award for Outstanding On-Camera Talent from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2018. Josh was named Weathercaster of Year in 2016, 2017, and 2018 by the Radio, Television, and Digital News Association of the Carolinas. His participation in team coverage of the October 2015 floods garnered an Emmy nomination for Best Morning Newscast.  The readers of Mt. Pleasant Magazine have voted Josh “favorite television personality” three years in a row and “favorite local celebrity” in 2017.  In 2017, 2018, and 2019, he was nominated by the readers of the Post and Courier in their Charleston’s Choice campaign as “Favorite Local Weathercaster” and “Favorite Local TV Personality.”

Josh serves as a special events adviser to the Carolina Children’s Charity and is a past board member of the organization. In addition to his work with the Carolina Children’s Charity, Josh works closely with Camp Happy Days, the American Heart Association of the Lowcountry, the Alzheimer’s Association of the Lowcountry, and the Ethen Richardson Foundation.
